"Damon Hostin, the Precision Medicine Optimist"

In this podcast, Mendelspod’s Theral Timpson speaks to Damon Hostin, who has had an active and exciting journey in genomic medicine and is now at Illumina in the role of Lead, Health System Market Access.

Damon has some insights into what he calls the “blindingly fast progression” of genomic medicine that should convince the most jaded of its critics. When compared to other areas of medicine, we are witnessing a rapid uptake of new science, he says.  

Damon’s biography includes work at Celera in the age of the Drosophila and Human Genome papers and work at a large community health system, Catholic Health Initiatives, where he was in charge of precision medicine. 

In this interview, Damon shares thoughts on how access to genomic testing has changed in the past five years and where the field is seeing success. The discussion ranges from pharmacogenomics testing to whole genome sequencing, which he calls an “amazing win” for reimbursement.
