Cancer biomarker discovery spans a wide array of scientific disciplines, including liquid biopsy and minimal residual disease (MRD). MRD is defined as malignant neoplastic cells that remain after cancer remission. Study of MRD in circulating cell-free DNA (cfDNA) through NGS-based targeted sample profiling has been shown to be predictive of relapse in certain cancers. Detection of MRD presents challenges such as workflow cost and the need for focused, customizable target enrichment panels. These challenges are further compounded by the low abundance of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), which can lead to increased false negative variant detection.
