"Application of Metagenomic Sequencing on the DNBSEQ-G99 Sequencing Platform Detects a Rare Psittacosis Pathogen"

This application note from Complete Genomics describes how, based on metagenomic sequencing analysis of three body fluid samples from a patient with severe psittacosis, the DNBSEQ-G99 sequencing platform was used to identify C. psittaci as the pathogenic organism.

Chlamydia psittaci is a zoonotic intracellular pathogen that can cause a range of serious diseases, including asymptomatic transient carriage and pneumonia that can lead to multi-organ system failure. However, early diagnosis is confounded with nonspecific clinical manifestations and low index of suspicion for rare infections. Furthermore, limited diagnostic methods in most clinical laboratories constrain the diagnosis of psittacosis.
