Nucleic acid quantification and normalization are required in most genomics workflows, most commonly after the initial nucleic acid purification step. UV absorbance-based quantification allows the concentration of all DNA and RNA types to be measured and provides simultaneous assessment of samples for impurities that could impair downstream applications. However, quantification consumes sample and can be tedious when performed manually.

This application note from Tecan demonstrates how the Frida Reader, an add-on module for the Fluent Automation Workstation, quantifies nucleic acid samples in a hanging drop at the end of a disposable pipette tip, eliminating sample loss. Samples can be normalized directly after quantification using the same pipette tip to minimize consumable usage.
